Conventional HEPA and ASHRAE rated fi lters as used in HVAC systems. Within
a few months, they become contaminated with microrganisms (viruses and bacteria)
and no longer deliver clean air. Enzymic fi lters are HEPA air fi lters
where the media has been treated with Lytic Enzymes which destroy microbial
content. Microrganisms get captured on airborne dust particulate. In a conventional
air fi ltration system these particles are trapped on the HEPA fi lter media
but are still active and will reproduce on the surface of the media, giving
rise to “secondary contamination”.
The Enzymic HEPA fi lter is a HEPA fi lter that has been treated with a
Lytic Enzyme belonging to the hydrolase group. The enzyme dissolves cell
wall of the microbes and decomposes into molecular level. The enzyme is
a safe, natural substance that is chemically bonded to the fi lter media
by protein.
What is the Germ Pro?
The Germ Pro unit is exceptionally versatile. As a self contained,
mobile recirculating air filtration unit it can be placed in almost
any environment and moved to where it is most needed. Quiet operation
and variable speed blower allow the unit to be set up anywhere there
is a standard 110V outlet (or 220V - international).
Action on Bacteria
The enzyme “kills” the bacteria by hydrolyzing the cell
membranes, resulting in osmotic pressure destroying the cell. Gram-positive
bacteria and fungi are active and longer living in air than gramnegative
bacteria which predominate in water but do not survive in air. The
Lytic enzymes target airborne gram positive bacteria.
Enzymic HEPA Filtration is proven to eliminate secondary contamination
of filtered air.

Action on Viruses
Viruses are particulate matter containing nucleic acids (DNA, RNA) and some
proteins. They do not reproduce on their own but require a host cell, such
as a bacterium, animal or plant and multiply utilizing the metabolic system
of that host organism (parasitic organisms).
80% of known viruses are able to invade organisms due to their glycoprotein
shells and S-protein spikes. If the viral envelope is broken down, the virus
is unable to invade the host cell and gets absorbed. The Enzymic filter
dissolves the viral envelope, rendering thevirus inert.

The Germ Pro is highly effective. The unit has been extensively tested
at The University of British Columbia. The Germ Pro removes over 90% of
microbial contamination over a 4 hour period.
